About Jane Hallowell

Jane Hallowell, CSYT, RYT
Certified Embodyment Yoga Therapist

I returned home to Massachusetts five years ago after five years of working in a New York City company, and decided to change my career path and become a yoga teacher. I had taken different styles of yoga throughout my life, and soon after my return to New England, I joined a Svaroopa Yoga class. It spoke to me so much, I began teacher training shortly thereafter. I am now a CSYT (Certified Svaroopa Yoga Teacher) and a RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher), certified for 500 hours with the National Yoga Alliance.

Svaroopa teachers are trained to align, prop, and adjust students in poses meticulously; meticulously, because precision provides the most effective release of muscle tension - specifically, in the muscles connected to the spine.

In addition, we study experiential anatomy, which teaches the principal elements of anatomy as related to Svaroopa Yoga. It gives an understanding of one's own body by learning its structure through moving, breathing, and working in partners. We also study Embodyment Yoga Therapy, yoga philosophy, and meditation.

After classroom training, mentors guide us as we learn the rules behind grouping lesson plans in series of themes (such as lower and upper spinal release, abdominals, forward bends, neck & shoulders, etc.) and appropriate, effective sequencing of poses within each lesson plan.

I teach classes, offer Embodyment Yoga Therapy, and work with clients, who are too busy to attend a class, to set up their own home practice. I also offer private sessions and group lessons where friends get together, and I teach in one of their homes.
